On June 21-23, Ambassador Heins led a delegation of companies and trade and investment organizations from Norway at the Select USA Investment Summit in Washington, D.C. President Obama was the keynote speaker and emphasized that “when your companies come together, you help bring countries and cultures together. you generate greater understanding among people from different parts of the world. That’s one of the most important things that you produce, and you should never underestimate its value”. The NACC-MA appreciates the opportunity to be included and part take such a great event.
The chambers and councils ADBC, BABA, FACC, NACC and SACC-DC co-hosted a European Networking event on June 7th, 2016 at the Embassy of France. The event featured Mr. Alan Gregerman ‘one of the most original thinkers in business today’ and was followed by a networking session. The event had a great turn out and we thank Mr. Gregerman for his brilliant remarks. We look forward co-hosting events with our European friends in the future.
Together with the Royal Norwegian Embassy and Norwegian companies Statoil and DNV GL, NACC-MA hosted an Energy Reception at the Norwegian Ambassador’s Residence on Tuesday, June 14th. The evening program featured speakers from Statoil and DNV GL and we had the opportunity to learn more about Statoil’s 2016 Energy Outlook and development of offshore wind in the U.S., as well as DNV GL’s vision for floating offshore wind. The 1-hour program was followed by a networking reception where our 70 guests enjoyed Norwegian salmon and ‘meat soup’. A big thanks to everyone who participated and made this a great event!
On Tuesday, June 14th NACC-MA and The Royal Norwegian Embassy co-hosted the Annual Embassy Roundtable at the Norwegian Embassy’s Chancery. The event provided our members a unique opportunity to participate in an open forum with Senior Counselors from the various sections at the Norwegian Embassy. Attendees learned about The Norwegian Embassy’s priorities and outlook for 2016, as well as upcoming events that may be of interest to NACC-MA members and the local Norwegian-American Business Community. Prox Dynamics had a chance to show its Black Hornet to NATO officers including General Mercier/Supreme Allied Commander Transformation. On Tuesday, April 5th 2016, The Royal Norwegian Embassy, in cooperation with Kongsberg Satellite Services, hosted a breakfast seminar on Satellite Technologies in Fisheries Monitoring and Surveillance. The program featured speakers from, amongst others, Kongsberg Satellite Services, the Standing Committee of Parliamentarians in the Arctic Region, the Royal Norwegian Navy, and the Office of Marine Conservation, U.S. Department of State. NACC MA appreciates the opportunity to take part of such a great event.
The Nordic Happy hour on Thursday April 14th was a success where young associates working around the DC metro area came together to enjoy networking and a happy hour. The event was hosted by the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce, the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce, the Danish-American Business Council and the Finlandia Foundation. We are already looking forward to the next one in June!

NACC MA Young Associate member and founder of the Georgetown University Scandinavia Network, Joanne Michelle Ocampo, writes in this article about the network and its experiences in Washington DC. The GU Scandinavia Network was established in March 2015 and aims to provide Scandinavian Hoyas (term for Georgetown affiliates) with a platform for discussions, informal activities, formal events, mentor/mentee relationships, and more, as professional networking across cultures is an increasingly necessary skill in this highly globalized world.
