NACC-MA, in collaboration with the Nordic councils and U.S. Department of Commerce, co-hosted an informative and interactive event on March 15th at the Embassy of Denmark that gave the participants valuable insights into how to succeed in the U.S. market. A special thank you to the great speakers from the U.S. Department of Commerce and SelectUSA, as well as the representatives from Dominion Voltage, Tacton, and Kongsberg Defense Systems, who all shared their success stories with us.
NACC-MA, in collaboration with The Royal Norwegian Embassy, The Royal Norwegian Navy and Virginia Economic Development Partnership hosted an industry seminar onboard the HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen (F310) frigate on March 8th in Norfolk, VA. NACC MA Young Associate member and founder of the Georgetown University Scandinavia Network, Joanne Michelle Ocampo, writes in this article about the network and its experiences in Washington DC. The GU Scandinavia Network was established in March 2015 and aims to provide Scandinavian Hoyas (term for Georgetown affiliates) with a platform for discussions, informal activities, formal events, mentor/mentee relationships, and more, as professional networking across cultures is an increasingly necessary skill in this highly globalized world. February 8, 2016 The NACC MA hosted a Member’s Luncheon at the Royal Norwegian Embassy last Monday. The event attracted 36 attendees, including Corporate, Professional and Young Associates members from our Chamber as well as representatives from the Embassy and Defense Attachée’s Office. The Luncheon included a brief from newly joined Red Corporate Member Textron, presented by Mr Gunnar Kleveland, EVP for Integrated Operations, Bell Helicopter Textron. The Norwegian Embassy hosted a pre-launch for the project “Norway Creates Jobs in the US” at the Hawk ‘n’ Dove December 10th. Congress representatives and staffers joined Embassy staff, NACC-MA board members and member companies to learn more about how Norway and Norwegian companies create jobs in the United States. The project is a comprehensive study on the Norwegian economic impact in all 50 states of the US. The Norwegian Embassy hosted a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Union Station December 1st. The tree is a gift from Norway to the people of Washington, and a symbol of Norway’s appreciation for the strong friendship and relations between Norway and the U.S. Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski lighted the Tree and Norwegian singer Ida Jenshus entertained us with her lovely voice. With traditional Norwegian “gløgg”, Norwegian gingerbread cookies and a visit from Santa himself it was the perfect way to start the Holiday season. Thank you to our members that attended.
NACCMA attended the annual event on the tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl, one of the largest and oldest sailing ships in the world. November 5th, marked the ship´s 11th trip to Baltimore, after a six-week voyage from Norway to Baltimore. Nor Defense Attachè Office hosted the event, and a spectacular show was given by the Norwegian Navy cadets.
Thursday Oct 29th – Thank you to everyone for attending this year’s Annual “Welcome to Washington DC” Dinner Cruise and the Annual Meeting of Members. NACC MA hosted its Annual Meeting onboard the Mount Vernon , followed by a Dinner Cruise with 70 guests, members of NACC, Embassy representatives, friends, colleagues, and members of affiliated organizations. Oct 7 2015 – The Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce celebrated a century of service to our members at the Metropolitan Club in New York on October 7th, 2015. Their Royal Highnesses, The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess of Norway attended the Gala as well as Norway’s Ambassador to the United State, The Honoroable Kåre Aas. Liv Ullmann received The Nora Award for Women of Achievement. Innovation Norway received The Norwegian-American Trade Award and Anita Krohn Traaseth/CEO accepted the award on behalf of Innovation Norway.
