Carbon storage started on Snøhvit
04.23.2008

Carbon injection and storage on the Snøhvit field started in the afternoon of Tuesday 22 April.

Instead of emitting the carbon dioxide (CO2) resulting from the well stream that comes from the Snøhvit field to the air, the CO2 is reinjected into the ground and stored in a formation which lies somewhat beneath the gas-bearing formations on the Snøhvit field.

The Doha Trade Talks
02.22.2008

Introduction
In July 2006, negotiations at the World Trade Organization's (WTO) Doha round of trade talks were suspended indefinitely. The stalemate prompted predictions that after five frustrating years, the Doha talks and the sweeping liberalizations they targeted might be dying, once and for all.

A group of about thirty ministers tried to revive the talks at the World Economic Forum's January 2007 meetings in Davos, but no major breakthroughs were made. Should Doha fail, the prospects for significant global progress on trade liberalization seem bleak. There are fears that a new era of trade protectionism could undermine the decade-old WTO and doom the dozens of impoverished nations that hope to gain access to rich-country markets. Experts note that previous trade rounds all experienced eleventh-hour breakthroughs-but add that entrenched attitudes, particularly toward agricultural policy, make a Doha deal increasingly challenging to negotiate.

Its cargo comes from the world's most northerly export facility for LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) at Melkøya outside Hammerfest in Finnmark.

Air Force set to award $40 bln air tanker contract
02.22.2008

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - The Pentagon is expected next week to reach a decision on who will replace its Eisenhower-era KC-135 Stratotankers, the big planes used to refuel fighters and bombers in mid-flight, but that won't necessarily mean the Air Force will be any closer to getting the new aircraft.

The two contenders, Boeing Co. and Northrop Grumman Corp. have been aggressively pursing the contract, arguing over whose plane will best meet the Air Force's needs, will provide the most American jobs and will become the most cost efficient over the long haul.

Norwegian Vessels to Go Clean
11.22.2007

Norway aims to be the first country in the world to launch environmentally-friendly ships based on fuel cell technology. Eidesvik Offshore ASA is the architect behind the model of fuel cell technology in the maritime sector to reduce CO2 and NOx emissions. "We strongly believe that environmental solutions are the future for commercial shipping" says CEO, Jan Fredrik Meling.

The company teamed up with The Norwegian Veritas (DNV), as well as others in 2003, and has been granted sponsorship from the Research Council of Norway to develop the first ship to be fuelled up on natural gas. Bellona, a Norwegian NGO that is working on environmental issues, applauds the initiative.
